Senior Originator (South East Europe), Energy Trading & PPA

European Energy

Søborg, Bucharest, Zagreb, Varna or Athens

Do you want to work with deal structuring and electricity offtake agreements from our fast-expanding portfolio of wind and solar projects? Would it motivate you to be responsible for growing and maintaining a strong customer base of corporate clients and PPA off-takers in South Eastern Europe? Then perhaps you are our new Senior Originator.

Your new team

You will be part of our Energy Trading & PPA team which is responsible for green power sales to energy distributors and corporate off-takers. The team currently consists of six full-time employees and one student assistant based in our headquarters in Copenhagen.

European Energy is a dynamic work environment and there will be opportunities to get involved in many areas of the business.

How you will create an impact

Your role will be centered around building up a customer base of wholesale energy buyers in South East Europe (principally Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece) who wish to fix their electricity prices with green energy. You are on top of the market and know what is going on, and you will utilize your market intelligence regarding stakeholders and trends in power markets. Combined with your background and experience within energy markets, you will help to increase the sales capacity in the department.

Your workday will be a mixture of days at the office doing market analysis and attending industry events to meet potential partners.

Ad hoc tasks and challenges will be part of the role as the renewable energy business moves into new areas. Expect regular interaction with internal stakeholders as well as project/business developers from wind, solar, PtX, and batteries.

Key Responsibilities

  • You deliver bankable PPAs for our growing portfolio of wind and solar assets along with PtX products.
  • You will be the first point of contact for potential clients in the wholesale energy markets, both direct corporate clients and market participants.
  • You will build up and maintain relations with relevant buyers of electricity and guarantees of origin.
  • You will maintain knowledge of requirements and participants in the Balancing Responsible Party market.
  • You will recommend hedging strategies and execute them in the market for our growing asset portfolio.
  • You will build relationships with customers, market participants, and internal stakeholders such as M&A and financing departments.

To thrive in the role we imagine you have the following competencies

  • You have at least five years of experience in a relevant role, ideally within energy markets.
  • You have a strong network of potential off-takers in one or more of our key regions or markets.
  • You have experience in structuring, valuation, and negotiation of complex contracts.
  • You have full proficiency in English, oral and written, and additional local language would be an advantage.
  • You know commercial-scale PPAs, long-term power contracts, and green certificates.
  • You can write and review PPA contracts in English.

As a person, you are a self-starter, take initiative, and enjoy working independently with great opportunities for sparring within the team. You are friendly and curious, and you use this to build relationships internally with other departments as well as externally in the energy market.
