What You Will be Doing!

As a Trading Analyst you’d be part of the Trading and Optimisation team, working as a key member of the team to support and direct the traders towards value, enabling them to make quick and informed decisions.

You’d be responsible for fundamental analysis, with a key focus on power trading decisions. We’ve a generation portfolio including run-of-river hydro, pump storage hydro and Biomass. Analytical knowledge in these new areas would make you invaluable to the team.

The desk is small in relative terms, but this means you’ll have more ownership and visibility with management and have greater interaction across the business. Specifically, you’d provide robust fundamental analysis, engage in trading strategies, develop and maintain models, review past analysis, own pricing tools and trading-decision models such as marginal costs models, option pricing and simulation models. You’d provide market and competitor intelligence and be spotting areas to add value.

About you

You’ll need to have a degree level education in a subject along the lines of science, maths, economics, engineering or other numerate subject, as well as working knowledge of UK power markets. Experience and understanding of power generation units will set you up to settle in quickly, as will a curious mindset.

You’ll have solid experience with statistical and fundamental modelling using IT techniques such a; SQL, Python, Excel, Business Intelligence tools (Power BI); and be able to apply a pragmatic approach to large data structures.

If you have a good understanding of the methods underlying linear and mixed integer programming with experience of building models and solving them with commercial optimisers (Xpress/CPLEX), you’ll be set up for quick success in the role.
