Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) is a cornerstone of Europe’s strategy to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. As outlined in the EU Industry Carbon Management Strategy, CCUS is essential for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, power, and chemicals, which must significantly reduce emissions to meet climate targets. The EU has set ambitious goals to capture at least 50 million tonnes (Mt) of CO2 annually by 2030, with targets rising to 280 Mt by 2040 and 450 Mt by 2050. With over 130 CCUS projects already underway across key markets, including the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, France, and Germany, scaling these efforts will require robust policy frameworks, strategic investments, and the commercialization of the entire industry value chain.
The Carbon Capture Europe Summit 2025 (#CCES2025), set for 29-30 April at the KIT Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, is Europe’s leading event to advance CCUS development in the context of a new energy economy. Bringing together over 450 C-suite representatives from government, industry, and finance, the summit will focus on the EU’s strategic priorities, exploring regulatory frameworks, technological innovations, and investment strategies crucial for driving Europe’s transition to a carbon-neutral future.
