We are looking for a Power Market Modeling Expert to join our dynamic team. The role is based in our headquarters in Louvain-la-Neuve, in the Brussels area of Belgium. Alternatively, hybrid or full remote arrangements are possible.
As a Power Market Modeling Expert, you will help the company thrive in the areas of electricity market design and power system development. The successful candidate will provide market analysis and consultancy services to clients across the value chain, supporting them to shape the future energy markets, ensuring they are efficient, reliable, and capable of meeting the demands of a transitioning landscape.
What you’ll do
- Develop and use analytical tools to provide customers with analysis and insights about the key questions and challenges facing electricity markets now and in the future.
- Lead the delivery of consulting missions involving power system modeling and market design advisory services.
- Mentor, support and develop other team members to ensure high quality modeling capability is created/maintained within the team.
- Contribute to business development activities (e.g. respond to RFPs to secure new consultancy projects).
- Contribute to thought leadership initiatives, including white papers, research reports, and represent the company at industry events and forums.
- Support the team in the definition of the medium to long-term strategy.
About you
- You have a Master’s or PhD degree in Engineering, Economics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
- You have at least 5 years of professional experience in the Energy sector, in areas such as electricity market design, energy market regulation, energy economics, and/or power system operation.
- You have strong experience in using energy system modelling software (e.g. Plexos, PyPSA, ANTARES, BID3, Aurora, etc.) and managing large datasets as part of consulting missions.
- You have a solid understanding of energy market design principles, and their business, economic and technical implications.
- You are familiar with typical energy market optimization problems, such as unit commitment, security constrained economic dispatch, nodal and zonal pricing.
- You can navigate through the regulatory environment of the energy sector and understand the implications for key stakeholders involved.
- You can coordinate cross-functional teams and manage project timelines and deliverables.
- You show strong proactivity, initiative and responsibility.
- You communicate confidently and explain technical problems in a clear manner.
- You proactively interact with external and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- You are fluent in English. Other languages are an asset.
