Media & Communications Manager

THE ASSIGNMENT
- The Media & Communications Manager works across the organization under the supervision and guidance of the Head of PR and Communications.
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic communications narratives on oceans, rivers and recycled catch that increase the visibility of the organization.
- Work with colleagues to develop annual, quarterly and project-specific communications plans in support of the organization’s Objectives & Key Results (OKRs), defined priorities, objectives and measurements.
- Regularly update the communications planning document.
- Perform research and analysis using a variety of resources to develop appropriate messages and products.
- Play a key role in executing a strategy that utilizes events and professional conferences to advance the organization's thought leadership among target audiences.
- Identify and plan for presentation and media training requirements.
- Write press releases, blog posts, and other relevant materials to communicate key organizational messages as required.
- Build and maintain relationships with influential print, digital and broadcast media reporting on related issues and secure high-level coverage.
- Help monitor coverage of the work of The Ocean Cleanup and its employees alongside relevant external digital and social media platform content with the support of media monitoring tools.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Min of 3-5 years’ experience working in communications and media relations environments either in-house or in an agency.
- Experience of developing and maintaining media contacts across national and international media outlets.
- Previous experience working with external media agencies an advantage.
- Cultural awareness: experience working in global environments preferable.
