Job summary – What to expect:

The Sustainability Team within the Global Technical Innovation Group (GTIG), is responsible for delivering the CooperVision sustainability strategy for operations, considering carbon, plastic and waste impact from product design to consumer post use.

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the coordination of multidisciplinary projects aimed at decarbonizing, waste reduction, and recovery and repurposing of materials used in our supply chain. Primary among these projects is the development of a decarbonization road map that sets the blueprint for the business’s sustainability transition. This role includes interaction with the wider CooperVision organisation and project teams, as well as with suppliers.

This role will deliver CooperVision’s sustainability strategy as directed by the Sustainability Strategy Manager.

  • Manage projects to meet timeline, quality, sustainability, ESG, and cost criteria;
  • Responsible for the performance of assigned project teams including global business partners (including COO ESG, supply chain, sourcing, distribution, finance, regulatory, Life Cycle Management, R&D, EHS, legal, manufacturing and packaging) and dedicated project team;
  • Champions best practice project management principles;
  • Interfaces and liaises with key stakeholders including customers and suppliers as relevant to assigned projects;
  • Manages the day-to-day project resources for assigned projects;
  • Ensures project teams are using current templates for all projects related documents and these documents are version controlled and approved;
  • Responsible for project reporting (Monthly Dashboard, PRS, Monthly Report, Quarterly stakeholder meetings, and other as determined);
  • Arranges and chairs project team and stakeholder meetings as appropriate.

About you:

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:

Managing projects

  • Work with the Sustainability Strategy Manager and/or wider Coopervision team to develop and approve detailed project requirements and a detailed project plan that meet the customer’s requirements of budget, time, and strategic sustainability deliverables;
  • Negotiate resource requirements with other departments to ensure project meets quality, cost, and delivery objectives;
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust project team to optimise resource utilisation at every phase of the project;
  • Work with Technical, Operational, Managers and colleagues to exploit new technologies or approaches;
  • Maintenance of visible project measures of performance (dashboard, monthly reports, project KPIs);
  • Hold regular project team briefings to ensure effective communication;
  • Represents Operations at relevant meetings related to sustainability projects including the decarbonization road map as required.

Managing people and teams

  • Motivate and manage project team to deliver optimal performance;
  • Manage cross-functional, cross-organisational teams to deliver on project parameters in the most optimal way;
  • Review project resource utilisation impact on progress/risks (planned versus actual).

Managing the customer

  • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships throughout the project which provides focus and strong positive perception on delivery;
  • Monitor and review with key stakeholders the progress against plan to effectively manage specification changes which ensure that delivery objectives are met;
  • To present credibly across all related aspects of the project, resolving issues promptly and satisfactorily;
  • Work with the Sustainability Strategy Manager to negotiate and agree specifications (including changes) with the key stakeholders and other Department Managers.

Quality

  • Delivery of projects to an agreed quality (e.g. accountancy standards as required by the ISSB and other regulatory standards);
  • Responsible for the quality of work delivered on the relevant projects;
  • Work with regulatory and QA team to record relevant documentation required for project success.

Managing budgets/cost

  • Monitor and safeguard commercial viability of assigned projects;
  • Ensure that projects are delivered to agreed time, cost and quality parameters;
  • Delivery of assigned project to an agreed budget, including tracking monthly spend, planned versus actual;
  • Working closely with relevant teams to manage/approve engineering cost changes and maintain log of variances;
  • Work with the Sustainability Strategy Manager, project team and across the organisation to ensure the actual cost benefits are known, presented, and managed throughout the project.

Time

  • Delivers assigned projects to the agreed timeline;
  • Number of project milestones planned for achievement compared to number achieved on or ahead of schedule;
  • Development lead-time - elapsed time for project, planned versus actual (baseline project).

Risk Management

  • Execute the risk management strategy agreed with the Sustainability Strategy Manager for each project according to relevant project governance guidelines;
  • Define regular risk reviews with project teams to identify, analyse, and respond to project risks;
  • Maintain a risk register for each project and report the overall risk status appropriately;
  • Maintain with the project team a register of lessons learnt and hold regular review to address them.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel will be based on project requirements and will typically include 10%-30% travel to CooperVision sites and vendors within the internationally.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing transformative business projects;
  • Sound understanding of project management principles and concepts such as would be obtained from formal project management courses – attended 3rd party PM training;
  • Expert in change management and communication skills;
  • A background of working on sustainability and ESG projects with carbon reduction initiatives preferred;
  • Proven capability in managing project, expenditure budgets and change management. Seen as a champion of project-management tools and techniques.

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing technical/development projects in a regulated environment;
  • Engineeringscientific based qualification to degree level or equivalent with suitable industrial experience;
  • Hold a Project Management Degree or a recognised project management qualification (e.g. PMI, APM, Prince2) – essential.
